CIDG Sorsogon Team suspended for extortionBy Russell Jay Manglicmot
Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has suspended one of its search teams for extorting money amounting P35,000 from a barangay councilor. CIDG Director Benjamin Magalong relieved Police Senior Inspector Marvin Pedere with his three teammates by a complaint filed by the brother of a certain Jimmy Espaldon Jr., a barangay councilor from Mabini, Casiguran. Espaldon said Padere and his team searched his house against illegal possession of firearms on Thursday of last week, but no guns were found, only blank ammunitions. He further said that the blank ammunitions found were used by his brother during his training in army in 1996. Padere's team brought Espaldon to CIDG Sorsogon's Office, then to various places before bringing him to a certain restaurant to eat, afterwhich Padere forced him to pay their bill and extorted P35 000 for his release. Three other houses were raided by Padere's team but no guns were also found. |
