Gabriela's request to visit Tiamzon, Rosal still not approvedby Russell Jay M. Manglicmot
Philippine National Police (PNP) still not approved the request of Gabriela to visit Communist Party of the Philippines/ New People's Army (CPP/NPA) Secretary GeneralWilma Tiamzon and daughter of former CPP spokesperson Andrea Rosal on Tuesday morning one month after Tiamzon's imprisonment.
Gabriela's Secretary General Joms Salvador said during a protest at the front of Campo Crame that the group submitted a request letter on April 3 regarding the visitation right of Tiamzon and Rosal but PNP "intentionally delays" the approval of the letter. "Araw-araw naming pina-follow-up 'yong sulat na 'yon pero sadyang iniipit ng [Camp]Crame ang sulat," she said. (We are following-up the request letter everyday, but Camp Crame seemed to delay the approval on purpose.) The Tiamzons and Rosal are detained in PNP Custodial Center inside Camp Crame. Salvador also said that the refusal of the request letter equates to not recognizing the humanitarian rights of the political prisoners. Gabriella asserts the freedom of the detainees due to their physical conditions. Rosal is on her eighth month of pregnancy, and Tiamzon suffers from severe bone generation. "Hindi paborable 'yong kondisyon nila sa kulungan. Nangangamba kami na sa bawat araw na lumilipas ay lalong lumalala ang kanilang kalagayan," Salavador said. (Their condition inside the prison is unfoavorable for them. We are worried that their condition will worsen as time passes.) Meanwhile, PNP has not yet released any official statement upon the issue. Tiamzon was arrested for illegal possession of firearms while Rosal was convicted of kidnapping and murder. |
